JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #13     DC COMICS

Sorry to say that this one has all sort of red flags down. I’ve been trying to get past the fact that the character of Ryan (All-New Atom) Choi has lost a good deal of the charm that made his original All-New Atom series back in 2006 a joy to read. Now he seems to be this muling little nobody that is acting like he’s an orphan looking for his daddy. Next, is the microverse. While it maybe the answer to the multiverse questions, there is no one there that I care about. Preon, Aron Aut, honestly I don’t care which one of them is lying nor if either of them survive. And while the Quantum storms seem cool, they honestly don’t do anything but blow s$@t up! If those lightning strikes can rewrite time and space, why does it just blow Lobo’s and half his face off? And finally, I’m still seeing the similarities between this storyline and a combination of the Countdown story about the search for Ray Palmer and the Into the MicroCosmos storyline that started in issue #213 of the original series. I give it a 4 Out of 10.

DOCTOR WHO LOST DIMENSION ALPHA #1     TITAN COMICS

An all star cast joins forces to create this epic adventure! Why is a White Hole moving through galaxy after galaxy consuming everything? Guest stars galore! Easter Eggs and in-jokes! I could go on and on about this book, but as they say, Spoilers! What I will say is this, this is a fascinating science fiction concept and story on it’s own. But focusing it on the history of Doctor Who was just brilliant! I give it a 10 out of 10!

DARKSEID SPECIAL #1     DC COMICS

More Kirby Fun! While I was never a big fan of the New Gods concept that didn’t stop me for reading with awe the original run. And with the talents of Evanier, Kolins, and McCaig, we are treated to a classic story of the ultimate tyrant! And a message that must never be heard. But as usual, it is the back up feature that steals the show as we get to pick up where the 1970’s Omac series left off. With a special guest appearance by Lila! And a Kirby short that may have been the original concept behind Brother Eye! Definitely worth the price of admission. I give it a 8 out of 10.

BLACK RACER & SHILO NORMAN SPECIAL #1     DC COMICS

More New Gods flashbacks with the help of Hudlin, Cowan, Benjamin, Sienkiewicz, and Friend! These talented folks recreate to Silver Age of Kirby and his Fourth World adventures. The history of the Black Racer and his sacred mission is recreated in all its splendor and the relationship between the man who cheats death and the man who is death is given a unique voice. And just for good measure we get a look back at some of the other diverse characters that inhabit the Fourth World. I give it a 7 out of 10.

LADY KILLER #5     DARK HORSE COMICS

Joelle Jones’ housewife with a gun brings her current adventure to close with enough blood and guts to prove that Mrs. Schuller is no shrinking violet! Using whatever she can get her hands on, she’s determined to end this. Knives, guns, flames, bricks, bottles, shotguns, whatever it take to put old man Reinhardt down for good. But as her sad, tragic life comes to a heartbreaking end, a new adventure waits in the wings. Jones’s art is stunning and Michelle Madsen’s colors (especially in the flashback sequences) really set the mood!  I give it an 8 of 10.
