BATMAN LOST #1 DC COMICS
Batman is truly lost and so I am. The longer this storyline continues, the more I hope Doomsday Clock can redeem the current DC Universe. Batman running through previous adventures picking out clues as to a possible escape from the Dark Multiverse sounds interesting in principal but falls flat when put on paper. With multiple artists and writers on board, the talent is most definitely there, it’s just they aren’t being given a lot to work with. Another tie in that does nothing to move the storyline forward. 3 Out of 10 Grahams.
SHE-HULK #159 MARVEL COMICS
Not a lot to say about the newest return of She- Hulk. The Leader is back and he’s got a new ditzy Harley Quinn-esque assistant. Jennifer is worried that she’s losing control of her green side and oh … she’s been captured and drugged. One of the major problems here is that Jennifer’s character (although she has been through a lot of the past few years) isn’t what it used to be. Considering everything her life has been, she’s show as somewhat naïve and I’m sorry to say boring. Even the Leader seems rather drab. Not what I wanted for the return of this character. I give it a 4 out of 10 Grahams.
MASTER OF KUNG FU #126 MARVEL COMICS
A cute little one off story with Shang Chi fighting against animal cruelty. CM Punk’s story pokes fun at itself with incompetent ninjas, a villain with a horrible name (reminds me of the old Spider Man cartoon villain Dr. Noah Body!), and the most (snicker) diabolical brain transplant plan! Luckily, Shang stays in street clothes and doesn’t slip into that horrible action suit he wears on the cover. Aside from that, Marvel’s restart of this classic title is uneventful. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
FIGHTING AMERICAN #2 TITAN COMICS
After an interesting start in issue #1, Gordon Rennie’s story continues to move along at a good pace and encompasses a lot of ideas that are skimmed over in your average time travel story. And Duke Mighten’s art is intensely detailed. By the end of the issue, you actually feel a bit sorry for the good Fighting American. From the loss of his friend Agent Bill to the fact that he can’t understand 1/2 the things people are saying to him. The good folks at Titan have definitely picked up where Headline/Prize publications left off in 1954. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE #2 MARVEL COMICS
This title’s issue #1 caught my attention long enough for be to check out issue #2. And I wasn’t disappointed. The master plan is on full display and our team is coming together. Damion’s sister Satana finally shows up and joins the team. And with Blade and Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider with them, this title is reminding me of the old Marvel Spotlight title from the early 70’s. Finally, Marvel has started reconnecting with it’s past! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
