EXILES #3 MARVEL COMICS
While we still play storyline catch up for the first few pages and then a reminder of the stakes if the Exiles fail, the title finally hits it own when we arrive in the universe of Peggy Carter Captain America. A short and sweet plot that ends in an intense and brutal surprise ending. With some cameos by time travelling Nick Fury, Morph, and hippie Sub-Mariner, this is starting to feel like the Exiles of old. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
FLASH #46 DC COMICS
So much recycling of old material here that I can’t stand it. Professor Zoom? Can’t someone just go back it time and erase him from continuity altogether? How many times is this villain going to come back stronger and crazier than ever. If I had a nickel for every close up of his evil crazy eyes I’ve see over the years, I’d be a very rich man. The saving grace of this story is the flashbacks that Wally keeps having as he tries to focus in on the current version of the real world. The revelation that the Flash Museum was a mirage in Wally’s eyes was especially cruel. With no way to help him, this little set up for the Flash War storyline, does nothing for our heroes. Be ready for some Red on Yellow faceoff poses for the next couple issues cause I guarantee they are coming. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
ROUGH RIDERS #4 AFTERSHOCK COMICS
The final installment of the Teddy Roosevelt years is a wonderful way to bring the series to a close. With his family under siege from supernatural force, the Riders Assemble one last time. And while victory is at hand, it comes with a terrible price for many of the team. However, as preordained in an earlier one-shot, a new group of Rough Riders will rise up in the future. And I look forward to that day and issue one of the new new story. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
JUSTICE LEAGUE NO JUSTICE #1 DC COMICS
Blah, blah, blah. There comes a time in old comic readers lives when they come to believe that they have see it all before and this mini-series certainly is a prime example of that. Celestials (oops, sorry, I mean the four cosmic god brothers) have been attracted to our universe since we cracked the Source Wall. This causes Brainiac to create special Justice League teams (anybody remember the Justice League of fill-in-the-blank from 2001 mini-series?)and then explode right before divulging his master plan. Leaving our heroes, villians, and other hangers-ons in space facing an unbeatable space villain (anybody remember Imperiex and Our World At War 2001). It’s only Guy Garnner’s smart aleck quip on page 1&2 that is worth the price of admission. Not a great start for the revamping of the Justice League universe for 2018/2019. I give it a 5 out of 10 Grahams.
