DOOMSDAY CLOCK #6 DC COMICS
Really?! We’re only halfway through? And while this issue does not really move the story forward much and I am still aggravated at the delays, I can’t help but really enjoy the origin and backstory of our two Watchmen villains. The general concept is very Charlton in style. Indeed, if Charlton comics were still around, this story would be a perfect example of what we could expect. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I only hope we can get back on track in a timely fashion. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
ARCHIE SUPERTEENS VS CRUSADERS #2 ARCHIE COMICS
While somewhat cute, all of the heroes are wasted (even the Superteens) in a story that reminds me a lot of a certain movie featuring a certain underpants wearing super-hero. (Evil genius takes a job as a teacher and tries to destroy the school?!) And Jughead’s big finale at the end really resolves nothing. And then cops out with the it was all a dream (or was it?!) ending. All this little two-issue mini-series made me do is want to go back and re-read some of the original Radio Comics appearances. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
DC BEACH BLANKET BAD GUYS SUMMER SPECIAL #1 DC COMICS
A random selection of stories featuring the best and brightest of the DC Universe villains that misses the mark. Bouncing back and forth between tales of touchy feely humor and overtly serious tones, the reader is left a bit battered. Plus, some of the tales seem to use the summer theme of the book more seriously than others. A nice attempt to give us readers a themed 80 pager but it just doesn’t do the job. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
MIKE HAMMER #2 TITAN COMICS
Max Allen Collins show that what he started in issue #1 is going to continue throughout the series. Noir through and through, this one’s a classic no matter how you slice it. Whether he’s bedding the babe or mixing it up with the mob, Hammer is back in business. Titan comics really stepped into the world of Black Mask Magazine with this title. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
THE NEW WORLD #1 IMAGE COMICS
I’m really on the fence about this one. Ales Kot’s tale of an America ravaged by a mysterious attack definitely stirs the imagination. And with Tradd Moore’s various art styles highlighting the tale, we definitely have the spot on definition of an independent comic. Image Comics goes out into left field again. Worth checking out. I give I a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
