HEROES IN CRISIS #3     DC COMICS

More backround as the days prior to the tradgedy are replayed for the readers. Unfortunately, very little is learned to keep the story moving forward and it’s almost distasteful looking back and reliving the tear-jerking events that brought these heroes and villains here. Speedy and Kid Flash’s losses, the mental anguish of Lagoon Boy time with the Teen Titans, are all well documented elsewhere but this review makes you want to turn away. In the end, this may turn out to be an excellent story but divided up into these 9 pieces is not helping. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.

HEX WIVES #2     VERTIGO/DC COMICS

Can someone explain to me what I just got done reading? This is definitely not a title for married men. The plotting is rather slow and most of the characters are not very likable. Now throw in some realistic unfunny small penis jokes and a few moments of awkward married sex and after page 11 I wondered why I was even continuing. the Stepford Wife like personalities of the women doesn’t ring true and the husbands and other male characters are pitiful. And the reveal of who or what is actually making the scratching noises is bizarre at best. This title is definitely off to a bad start. I give it a 4 out of 10 Grahams.

DC NUCLEAR WINTER SPECIAL #1     DC COMICS

The problem with Holiday specials is either A. They try to hard to represent the holiday or B. they get filled characters that DC is trying to spotlight. Neither of these turn out very well in the end. You may get a keeper of two but that’s it. Now back in my day, a Nuclear Winter Special would have featured the Atomic Knights, Kamandi, Captain Comet, etc. Not Batman and Flash. But what this book is missing in character association in makes up for it with tales that are expressing a level of fear, lonleness and general overall angst that always accompany this time of year. A good effort that gets an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
