FREEDOM FIGHTERS #1 DC COMICS
Quality is the name of the game here (get it?!). And this forth gathering of Quality Publishing’s Super Group is exactly that. This is an updated version of classic Golden-Age heroes that actually makes sense. Alex Ross’s version of Uncle Sam is lost and the Nazis have won. But once you see the museum blow up completely, you know the fight is far from over! With new weapons, the Fighters may be up against. With the deaths of the remainder of the original group, we are introduced to the next team. And following in a tradition that has overlapped from series to series, the new members have a direct ties to the originals. This is proving to be an interesting mini-series all ready. With the evil PlaSStic Men and the giant Nazi robot, this new team has its hands full. Fans of the Golden Age rejoice. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
DAMAGE #12 DC COMICS
Not the biggest fan of this book when it first came out but after reading Damage’s first encounter with the Justice League has given me some hope for this New Age of Heroes. Lopresti and Venditti’s storyline is well done and makes me wonder why these guys aren’t being offered a Justice League title. It was also somewhat nostalgic as we got cameos by Green Arrow, Guy Gardner, and Deadman. Also, having Ethan taking up his recovery at the Hall of Justice makes for infinite possibilities. This could be the turning point that gives the title some pizzazz! Waiting for issue 13. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
BLACK BADGE #5 BOOM! STUDIOS
Writer Matt Kindt channels his inner Lord of the Flies as the small groups are left on the mysterious island with little to survive. Lies are told, new alliances begin. Fans of Maze Runner and Hunger Games are sure to absolutely love this book. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
ENCOUNTER #9 LION’S FORGE COMICS
All looks hopeless as one by one our heroes fall trying to prevent Plagnor from retrieving the pods. And while still brought to us by Baltazar, Franco, and Giarrusso, the tale turns a little dark here and loses a bit of the amuzing kid comic vibe. And not in a bad way, as it shows that our creative team is not a one trick pony. A well done series which proves itself with every issue. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
