PROJECT SUPERPOWERS #6 DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT
The big finale of this chapter of Project Superpowers. And without a long drawn out battle sequence, the people of Manhattan (with the help of the American Flag rise up and with a daring plan that costs one of our hero’s lives, the world survives but what new adventure awaits our heroes in their new headquarters. Time will tell. Again, writer Rob Williams proves that he’s no slouch in writing Golden Age heroes. And Sergio Davila’s art in all over the page at crazy angles and viewpoints that are a joy to the eyes. Let’s hope the next chapter we can go full blown George Perez and fit in more of the heroes. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
BATMAN #64 DC COMICS
Joshua Williamson brings the personalities of Batman and Flash. Old friends and teammates that have had enough of the superhero life. Still reeling from the events in the Crisis title, Batman knows things he doesn’t want to share and the Flash is sick of hearing the lies. Some excellent dialog that almost takes away from Guillem March’s moody art. A definite quality story arc! I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
GUNHAWKS #1 MARVEL COMICS
Another Marvel one-shot that should have been better than it was. While the “Ballad of Deadman Donnelly” is an interesting tale, it really has no ties to the original series, so no Reno Jones or Kid Cassidy. I had hoped for a visit with some old characters but no such luck. With the long and full history of the western genre in the world of Marvel, I would have hoped for more. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
YOUNG JUSTICE #2 DC COMICS
An interesting deviation from the usual Teen Titans/Young Justice groups. Mixing some old heroes and new characters gives this title some umph. Encorporating Amethyst into the story and setting it in Gemworld is a risky choice. But the introduction of Teen Lantern and Jinny Hex, make it more interesting. And with a hidden storyline involving Zeus and Wonder Girl may make it a worthwhile addition to your monthly pull. The question is can Bendis keep this unusual gathering of young heroes together for a regular series. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
