MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #2     MARVEL COMICS

The new version of Marvel Comics Presents seems to be suffering from the same issues that it’s predecessor suffered from. While the randomness of the stories is one of the key draws to the concept, it also acts against it. With an on-going Wolverine story acting as its base, putting in a Mr. Fantastic and a Gorilla Man back up seems too chaotic. And I love Gorilla Man! Honestly, all three tales are good and the artwork teams do a very good job. But if I’m a Wolverine fan, I have to suffer through the other two stories, etc, etc. While I applaud the idea of making a reader flip though something he or she might not normally read, in these current rough times, is it wise to put out a $5 book on a chance? Want to reward me with a Gorilla Man story, throw me a Venus or Marvel Boy story to go with it. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.

FLASH #65     DC COMICS

Boooooooo! Boo, I say! A perfectly good storyline and crossover ruined at the last minute and I don’t believe I can blame Joshua Williamson’s story. What started out as a wonderful emotionally charged version of the Brave and the Bold comes to a sudden and abrupt end. With no reveal, no mastermind, no nothing except for an abrupt two page ending announcing the next big crossover event coming soon?! How can you start advertising Year of the Villain when you haven’t finished Doomsday Clock nor Heroes In Crisis?! From my perspective, it looks like poor ole Joshua Williamson was visited by the Future DC Universe Police and told to kill the story quickly and philosophically and then bugger off. That’s just not right!  I give it a 5 out of 10 Grahams.

HEROES IN CRISIS #6     DC COMICS

Right off the bat, I don’t believe any of it. After 6 out of 9 issues, I have seen no investigating, no official clues or proof offered. I have witnessed more interviews with heroes that have way too much emotional baggage for their own good and more red herrings than I can shake a Scooby Doo kid at. All I do know is that someone at DC really must have hated the Teen Titans. I give it a 5 out of 10 Grahams.

BARBIE #1     PAPERCUTZ PUBLISHING

Good clean fun you can recommend to most women in your life. Taking a modern look at the fashion superstar, this latest version does a good job of inspiring the creativity of youth. Taking some nods from Barbara Slade’s Marvel Comics version from back in the eighties and nineties which featured some of the best female talent in the industry. This new title follows suit. Alitha Martinez’s art style works well and does give the characters a more doll like quality. I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams.
