GREEN LANTERN #6 DC COMICS
Teaming up with his former back-up feature star, having Green Lantern and Adam Strange is as natural as apple pie and vanilla ice cream. The sad part is that the DC universe is still filled with outer space cults and quasi-religious figures. Even under the talent hands of Grant Morrison, these types of stories leave me felling uneasy. Just like in real life the fine line between one person’s beliefs and ideals and popular opinion and free will is somewhere none of us want to be. And even though there can be no real defeat of Controller Mu, I was happy that Morrison keeps to the traditional Adam Strange. Jet-packs, laser guns, and a Zeta beam that wears off at the end of the story. And I must admit that Liam Sharp’s Alanna is by far one of the best drawn versions I have seen in a while. Still worth reading but you may need to hit you local comic shop for some prior issues to get caught up. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
MARVEL TEAM-UP #1 MARVEL COMICS
I loved Marvel Team-Up. I was there from the first Spider-Man/Human Torch team up and have followed the reincarnations through out the years. And with the popularity of the new Ms. Marvel, it was only natural that she gets the first issue. And what Eve Ewing and Joey Vazquez give us is a classicly staged team up. Now on the other side of the coin, you know what I really don’t like … gimmick books! Hologram covers, trading cards, poly-sealed bags complete pain the butts. So to discover that issue one is a flip book really tweeked me! With half the book printed upside down and backwards, this made for a very difficult read. Hopefully, this is a one time deal. And since we don’t appear to be giving us the big reveal at the last page, I only hope that we continue adding more heroes to the storyline rather than running a 3 to 4 part story with just Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
POWERS IN ACTION #2
Art Baltazar and crew prove that issue #1 wasn’t a fluke. With the addition of a new villain, the title is starting to spread it’s wings and fly on it’s own. Get onboard at the ground level for this great all ages title. I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.
BRONZE AGE BOOGIE #1 AHOY COMICS
Once the plot points start blending together better, I have high hopes for this title. With a wide and varied group of characters spread over multiple points in time it’s no wonder that issue one can leave you a bit confused upon first reading. But the potential is there for a good time traveler story. Only two things are completely apparent from issue one and that is no matter what time period you are from, Martians suck. and number two fighting off the end of the world goes a little easier with some of Madame Ape’s special mushrooms. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
BLACK HAMMER ’45 DARK HORSE COMICS
Again Dark Horse rides up on us with a wonderfully charming 2nd issue of this new title. With a mission flashback taking place. Nazi Werewolves and Nazi Vampires! This team of flying fighters have a new mission and they take it right into the Nazi vampire. And if this wasn’t enough, we’ve got some guest stars for the massive cameos that are awaiting the reader. I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.
