FLASH #769 DC COMICS
Initially this issue lost a few points as I began recognising the plot of bearing a resemblence to a certain Batman floating in and out of other temporal and dimensional versions of himself. But I was quickly won back by writer Jeremy Adams dialog. Whether it be the humorous discussions between Green Arrow, Mr. Terrific, and Barry Allen or the constant nagging of Mr. Terrific and Gold Beetle about revealing future events, the man knows how to write these characters! And I definately agree with Green Arrow that $20 for a Flash Coffee Mug is way too pricey! This is an actual fun read and with David Lafuente and Brandon Peterson on art duty, the look of the book keeps up with the quality of the story. And no spoliers but the last page has me waiting impatiently for next issue. Especially since it involves a certain dictator who has control of the Spear of Destiny! And you know what that means! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
GODZILLA MONSTERS & PROTECTORS #1 IDW PUBLISHING
With Godzilla vs Kong out it theatres, it’s about time we got us another Godzilla title! And while writer Erik Burnham has an interesting script based on tried and true Godzilla plot points, this is not like IDW’s previous titles. This has a more cartoony 1980’s Godzilla and Godzucki style to it and definately takes inspiration from the era of Godzilla movies where Godzilla was a champion and was more kid friendly. Not that this is a bad thing. Dan Schoening’s art is definately the perfect match up to this style of story. But I can’t feel a little disappointed. I was a huge fan of many of the former IDW Godzilla titles and so when I saw this cover, I flipped. Expecting a home run, instead I got a double with a steal to third. But this is a book that I can recommend for all ages, so it’s got that going for it. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
