BATMAN SUPERMAN #22     DC COMICS

How I pity the poor creative team who have to come up with the next issue after Gene Luen Yang and Ivan Reis’s epic story arc! But amazingly, Yang along with new penciller Paul Pelletier pull off this mind blowing little one-shot. Yes, that’s right, I said one shot. A story that starts on page one and ends on page 22! A story with a beginning, a middle, and an end all in the same comic! Amazing! (Why yes, little Billy, that’s exactly how we used to read them in the old days.) The ideas and theories put to one of everyone’s favorite C-list villains, the Calander Man are novel and definately breaking that fourth wall in more ways the one. Pelletier’s art is definately gives new meaning to thinking outside the box! With in-jokes and old time references, this one was a complete please to read. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.

ADVENTUREMAN #5     IMAGE COMICS

Has it been a year already? Well, it’s about time that we finally got the next installment of Matt Fraction and the Dodsons’ (Terry & Rachel) take on the heroes of the pulp era. Giving us the closing of the first story arc, Adventuremom (she hates being called that) brings us into a new world where the universe of Adventureman is real and ready for more adventures. Fraction gives us the best arc ending ever. The world remembers everything! A new Adventureman team is back in business! The villain has been defeated at the prisoners lost to false memories have been restored! Add in a touching letter from the artist team involved in the title that acts as a reminder of what we all have been going through these troubling times that acts as a bit of hope raiser, and you’ve got a get exit from the current story. It also gives us hope that a whole new set of adventures is on the way. I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams.
