WAR FOR EARTH-3     DC COMICS

Even Ambush Bug’s wise acre comments can’t save this one. With an endless amount of potential and an endless list of contributors in both the art and writing, this one had a chance of being an excellent crossover. But the truth of the matter is that this title so far has no likeable characters. (I truly miss the John Ostrander/Luke McDonald version of Amanda Waller!) None of Waller’s invading force are anyone we care about and so when the Crime Syndicate come for a fight, it doesn’t matter. And I can barely tell who survived the initial attack. The Crime Syndicate are totally deplorable and completely manipulatable thus making them less of a threat. Rick Flagg, once a brilliant tacticianis now reinacting the Charge of the Light Brigade when we all know, he’s better than that. Now we’ve got multiple splintered groups all over the place and we haven’t even gotten the Teen Titans or the Flash involved yet. I give this one a 4 out of 10 Grahams.

SUICIDE SQUAD #13     DC COMICS

War for Earth-3 part 2.  While I will admit that the creative teams are doing well in keeping tabs on everyone, the story continues to splinter off over and over again. And honesty, over the first two parts of this story, I haven’t seen much of a war. I have seen a complete blitzkreig that ended in some embarassing manipulation of what are suppose to be the most powerful villains on the Earth. This was quickly followed by minor skirmishes that caused smaller and smaller groups to separate. While this gets more and more complicated, it does provide us with some plot points and some backstory. Still no Flash or Teen Titans yet but that’s probably for the best. Get out a score card and a note pad as you’re going to need it to track whose with whom. I think I’ve got at least 5 different groups at the current time. But I may be wrong. A step above part 1 but that’s not saying much. I give it a 5 out of 10 Grahams.
