BATMAN/SUPERMAN WORLD’S FINEST #4 DC COMICS
There appears to be no stopping Mark Waid and Dan Mora’s run on this title. With Nezha possessing most of the world’s population, it’s up to the dynamic teams of Superman and Batman, Supergirl and Robin, and the Doom Patrol to save the day. And with a helpful boost of Green Lantern energy, they might stand a chance. What I found interesting is that the combined form of Superman, Batman, and Green Lanterns ring reminded me of the villainous Replikon from Green Lantern #108 (Sept. 1978). So kudos to Dan Mora for knowing his Green Lantern history or for being part of an amazing coincidence. Again, the storyline is strong, the art is well done and Tamra Bonvillain’s color pallet is endless. This one earns a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
AQUAMAN/THE FLASH VOIDSONG #1 DC COMICS
Ok, what’s the deal with Aquaman? I haven’t been this confused by Aquaman since DC stuck him in the light blue wavy uniform and piled on the Atlanian back story back in 1985. Over in his regular series, it’s now Aquamen and it seems like DC can’t make up their minds as to who the successor should be and what to do with Arthur. In the meantime, these mini-series keep popping up. First it was Aquaman and Green Arrow, now he’s sharing the spotlight with Barry Allen’s Flash (who in all honesty seems to be suffering from the same successor issues). This new title has some wonderful character moments like the interactions between Barry and his wife and the Rogues Gallery as well as Aquaman dealing with a really ticked off Mera. And while Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing’ story reminds me of DC Comics from the late 1970’s/early 1980’s, it’s not enough to keep my interest. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
