DC MECH #2 DC COMICS
And just like that, the Justice Society is gone (and no old Hawkgirl’s appearance here does not count! She’s only there to make the team more Justice League Unlimited cartoon based.) And what we are left with is exactly what I had thought. A young version of the Justice League operating big robotic suits. What’s more they aren’t even doing it well. Superman doesn’t even come close to being the bastion of hope that he should be. Batman is an unlikable combination of cocky and arrogant. Dual Pacific Rim pilots Hal Jordan and John Stewart can’t get Alan Scott’s power battery to do anything. And Flash suit has to stop more than occasionally so that it doesn’t blow. And these are the heroes going up against Darkseid and his crew? Not a chance. Even with the addition of Steve Trevor and Mech Wonder Woman, this one can’t keep my interest. Like Mech Armor Suits, this one might be for you. I give it a 3 out of 10 Grahams.
DEFENDERS BEYOND #2 MARVEL COMICS
Wow! And I thought the last Defenders series was over the top in the big brain department. Get out your PHD’s and college theses on metaphysics folks! I like a story that makes me think but not one that has be delving deep into Unified Theory and the philosophical nature of the storyteller as a person of power. The Beyonder is back (not a good sign) and this romp through dimension upon dimension ends with an last page appearance of *NO SPOILERS HERE* leads me to believe that this storyline was created with the use of certain substances. And with the current lineup here, why is Tigra part of the team? If you though Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was confusing, this one has it beat! Oh how I long for the days when I could pick up a copy of the Defenders and watch Hulk Smash, Namor just beat down on everybody, and see Doctor Strange “By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggath” stuff. I give it a 4 out of 10 Grahams.
TALES OF THE HUMAN TARGET #1 DC COMICS
It was a shame that Tom King did such a fantastic job on the 2021 Human Target series. It caused the break between issues 6 and 7 feel like an eternity! But Tom King is back for a quick one-shot to give us some insight and some comedy in the life of our hero, Christopher Chance. And he’s brought along an all star team to help him. With Kevin Maguire, Rafael Albuquerque, Greg Smallwood, and more! See Fire when she was still a super model instead of a super-hero! See Booster Gold save the day over and over again while still being a putz! See Guy Gardner be a jerk just like the good old days! For once DC thought things through and got us back in the mood for some good old fashion noir storytelling before continuing the regular series. Looking forward to issue #7. Well done DC, credit where credit is due. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
