SUPERMAN SPACE AGE #2 DC COMICS
Mark Russell’s story continues in what I can only refer to as the best Elseworlds Comic that isn’t an Elseworld’s comic. Incorporating multiple storylines into the overall narrative, we bounce from time period to time period and watch as the roster of heroes expands. Aquaman, Green Arrow, Black Canary have all shown up by the end of Book Two and Michael Allred’s interpretation of them is simply marvelous. Brainiac as the Monitor?! The Wedding of Lois and Clark?! This one encompasses a lot of story but handles it smoothly. One of the best aspects of this issue is the expanding story of the Batman. While Superman continues to be the big blue boyscout, Batman now handles some of the more philisophical points raised in the story. With the JLA appearing in just the right amount, this book makes you think, reread the pages, and makes you wonder “Who is right, here?” 10 out of 10 Grahams.
HUMAN TARGET #7 DC COMICS
After a small hiatus, Christopher Chance is back and up to his bottom lip in crime noir! Tom King knows his dialog, his settings, and his human nature. The clues from the past 6 days have lead us to Fire’s doorstep. But is she actually the one who put the poison in Luthor’s/Chance’s glass? Things are not as they seem and day 12 is starting to grow closer. The true genius of this book is that with a few minor exceptions, this is a grim mystery novel. It’s not a comic book, it’s not a JLI reunion story, this is full blown, gumshoe meets pretty girl over a dead body stuff! And I for one am loving it. As the clues start to pile up and the full story starts to come out, I would definitely suggest rereading issues 1-6 to refresh your brain. Because, this story just took an unexpected turn and the next part of the puzzle may not be available. 9 out of 10 Grahams.
SUPER SUCKER BINGE BOOK #2 SITCOMICS
The gang at Sitcomcs bring us more vampire mayhem for a teen audience but us old duffers like it too. Darin Henry and Robin Taylor’s story which goes for an entire story arc in this overstuffed comic manages to keep multiple plot points moving while completely encased in chaos. Much like a classic 1970’s sitcom, the story of Stewart, Vera, Kelly, Jess, Adam, and Trevor runs us around in circles but manages to come to a satisfying ending. It’s quite easy to imagine Stewart being played by John Ritter or Kelly being played by Suzanne Somers. And with Jeff Schultz’s Archie like artwork this is a win-win that works on many levels and for many age groups. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
Z-PEOPLE BINGE BOOK #1 SITCOMICS
Another over stuffed binge book for the good people over at Sitcomics, Darin Henry’s tale of obnoxious people trying to survive a “zombie” apocalypse by dumb luck is humorous and a bit dark. After discovering that by covering themselves in zombie stink, the living humans can move around the hoards of maneating creatures without fear. However, just because you can do a thing doesn’t mean you should do a thing. This zany cast of unlikely heroes will warm your heart as they face the chore of daily living while covered in smelly zombie juice. This first issue gives us a good look of the survivors made to look even better by famed artists Tom Richmond and Al Milgrom. A unique look at a group of survivors saved by sheer chance and filled with bad jokes and one totally off the rails redneck half-zombie smart-aleck. Some good fun for teens and up. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
