BATMAN INCORPORATED #4 DC COMICS
As the members of Batman Inc and Lex’s group go head to head, Ed Brisson’s story ventures a little into predictable territory as we get more details of Phantom 1’s miraculous return and meet the failed Batman imitator who helped save him. But am I the only one who sees similarities in this set up and a certain Dark Knight, a certain daughter/mother, and a son trained to carry out vengeance? Plus, with all the hard-@ss, unflapable attitude on the part of Ghost-Maker, he gets fooled by a bogus tracker and a wolf in sheep’s clothing? I think not. Hoping that next issue shows that this has all been a red herring. But I’m not so sure. Good action, great backrounds, just not enough to carry it over the top. Taking a few steps backwards, this one gets a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
FLASH #790 DC COMICS
This issue I’m on the fence on. After the character development and return to classic Flash story telling, jumping back into an invasion Earth multi-issue arc is rather disappointing. I had been hoping for a few self contained reviews and updates on our characters. And this issue starts off just like that. With little 2-3 pages story beginnings as to some of our Flash family. But then, Earth and its inhabitents are frozen in slow motion to the point where they are not moving. Only people with super-speed have remained normal to face down the invaders. And thus all those in-depth looks at the lives and loves of the Flash family are interrupted. And did we really need to mess with Iris again! Things were just coming together again. Not enough of the invasion story here to get a reading on and all ‘Day In The Life Of’ stories are out now. We’ll have to keep our eyes on the next issue to really see if this one is good. Without more details, this one earns a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
DANGER STREET #2 DC BLACK LABEL
The helmet of Fate continues it’s narrative and once again shows that Tom King was definately the writer for this story. So many Easter Eggs that I lost count. However, the best has to be Warlord signing into a hotel under the assumed name of Grell! Priceless! Story points continue to build as the Green Team begins it’s media attack on the Outsiders with the help of Jack Ryder and the Creeper. Manhunter had begun his hunt. And Lady Cop continues to do her rather boring investigation into the death of Good Looks while still making it not boring. But by far the most amazing scene in the whole book is the one between Darkseid and Izaya. Touching yet so amazingly disturbing that it even shocks Desaad! Now that is a powerful story. Atlas is dead, why is the sky falling? The jaw dropping story continues. 10 out of 10 Grahams.
GODZILLA RIVALS: RODAN VS EBIRAH ONE-SHOT IDW COMICS
Finally, my favorite kaiju lobster gets cover billing! Since it’s first appearance in the troubled production Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (aka Godzilla vs the Sea Monster), this poor kaiju lobster(?) has always fallen short of the love given to many of the monsters from Godzilla movies. So watching him go toe to to toe with Rodan not only in space but in a space corridor elevator is really cool! Add in a couple of cameos from MechaGodzilla, Biolante, Godzilla, and Baby Godzilla and you’ve got one doozie of a story! Showa Era Godzilla fans rejoice! 9 out of 10 Grahams.
