OUTSIDERS #9 DC COMICS
With Batwoman taking on a case of her own (see last issue) Luke Fox heads out with Drummer and his dad to check out Opak-Re, a lost city in the Yucatan. But they find so much more, as Opak-Re is the home of ‘The Cannon’ a weapon created from the fabric of the universe that can destroy sections of the multiverse. But more importantly, it introduces a delightful twist on the agents of order and chaos. Nubu and Klarion the Witch Boy in a faceoff with Luke Fox! A realization that neither Order nor Chaos might be right! Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly really make you think! A story that you have to read through and absorb the concepts. And that’s a story I can get behind! Plus an off the cuff reference to Anthro can’t hurt. 9 out of 10 Grahams.
HUMAN FLY #0 IPI COMICS
Nostalgia greets me with a warm hug with this one. During the 1970’s, Marvel was really into cross-promotion. So much so that from 1977 through 1979, the mysterious stuntman (whose identity we never discovered!) preformed daredevil stunts for charities while fight bad guys. And the best part was that you might be able to see a Human Fly preformance in real life as stuntman Rick Rojatt tourned the nation in costume! For Marvel, he lasted 19 issues in a comic created by Bill Mantlo. How he ended up in a #0 issue from an Australia company some 45 years later is a story, I really want to deep dive in! Now that he’s back with a new crew and possibly a new man under the mask, I’m all in! And this #0 issue gives the readers exactly what they want. Mystery, intrigue, death-defying stunts as well as numerous plot points that I definately want to see explored. With a definite Captain Canuck flavor to the feel and art, I look forward to issue #1! Now if they could just get a new Nightcat title started. 10 out of 10 Grahams.
GEIGER #4 IMAGE/GHOST MACHINE COMICS
Geoff Johns and Gary Frank continue the fascinating tale of the Glowing Man. And while a hangar full of Organ People can’t stop him after Barney is kidnapped, one incredibly resourceful villain appears to have the means to defeat him. This issues cliffhangar is a doozy and I’m annoyed that I have to wait until next month to find out what happens next. That fact, in itself, is worth you picking up a copy. However, the characters, the settings, and the concepts here are all very likable. The entire line of Ghost Machine titles are worth getting into. 9 out of 10 Grahams.
