Hello, weary traveler, and welcome to this weeks stop of the Great Graham Crackers Comics Tour! We are the GCC of Andersonville, located in the impossible to miss big blue building on the corner of Clark and Winnemac ( 5028 N. Clark, 60640), just south of Foster. We’ve proudly been serving the Andersonville area since the summer of 2018, after having been located on Broadway in Edgewater for about ten years prior.
This location beats the old location quite easily, with its large front windows allowing much more light, as well as a much roomier interior that doesn’t overwhelm you with stuff as soon as you walk in.
Right in front, in one of our main window areas, we have our kids corner, chock full of all kinds of treasures for kids of all ages to enjoy! With an abundance of all the freshest Little Golden Books, Bluey, Minecraft, Dog Man, coloring books, and everything in between, there’s something new to check out every week!
Our main focus is on the new release wall. You ever go to a shop thinking, “The regular cover is cool and all, but I’m really hoping they have a variant or two that I’m looking for,” only to find nothing but rampant “A” covers!?! I do everything I can to make sure that my new release racks are loaded up with as many variant covers as I can possible get away with. Variety is the spice of life, and I’m here to cook!
Mutually, everyone is gonna have Marvel and DC stuff, but you never know what all independent books a store is going to stock. I pride myself on trying out as many titles as I can, no matter the size of the publisher. And with new publishers popping up almost every week, there is so much out there that may get overlooked.
Right at the front entrance of our store you will find the community Little Free Library, which is always getting filled with interesting items from us as well as the Andersonville community at large. Grab something on your way out, and maybe the next time you stop by, throw in a couple of books you might not need anymore but know someone out there would cherish as well.
Once a month on a Saturday, we open up our basement area to put on the rad comedy show they call Rad! Originated at the old Lakeview location and organized by Lakeview manager Jake Pierce and Pat Hoban, Rad is a comedy show showcasing several local comedians and musicians. Every show is different, and is always a fun time to be had by all.
I could write on and on about everything we have in the store, as every square inch of this place is filled with all manner of awesome stuff, from books and comics, to toys and statues. But what makes this place truly special is all of you, the people who visit me every week, or on occasion. I’ve managed this place since 2013, and absolutely cherish these many years. Some of you I may have just met, some of you have been here years, and some have been stopping by for the last 15 years, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you keeping coming back. This is a special place that I have dedicated my life to, and I couldn’t be here without you.
