GIANT-MAN #1 MARVEL COMICS
This one initially presents me with a reviewers dilemma. On the one hand, I’m a big fan of the character of Giant Man (especially the Black Goliath version) but I really don’t give a rat’s about the War of the Realms. So let’s see what we’ve got inside, shall we. An interesting yet somewhat disjointed story as Lady Freyja come knocking for vengeance. With Loki’s death at the hands (or rather mouths) of the Frost Giants, she’s gathering up the only men who can go eye to eye with them. And while the characters are an interesting mix the story itself. It’s almost as if some panels were left on the cutting room floor. Numerous times I had to double back and see if two pages were stuck together. Unfortunately, like many mini-series published to enhance the main story, it seems unnecessary and rushed. Which I actually believe is a shame. Maybe a mini-series without being connected to Marvel’s next big thing storyline might have served these characters better. I give it a 5 out of 10 Grahams.
SPIDER-MAN LIFE STORY #3 MARVEL COMICS
Wow! How can I begin to review a book that takes one big bold step forward and punches your heart out! This one is an emotional roller coaster as Peter can’t get it right. Even with Reed’s advice, Peter can’t do the right thing for anyone. Mary Jane, Aunt May, the heroes of Secret Wars. As the tears keep falling, Chip Zdarsky show us his take on such storylines as Secret Wars, the Kraven the Hunter battle, and more. The problem is he really does an amazing job on his versions which make me wonder why he isn’t doing more at Marvel. Three issues in and this one keeps delivering! I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.
HELLWITCH HELLBOURNE #1 COFFIN COMICS
Well, the folks who bring us Lady Death are bringing back the comic world of the 1990’s. Back when Faust and Dawn were sold from behind the counter. While not overtly familiar with the character of Hellwitch, luckily this title is ready to provide me with a full back story. And luckily for us her backstory involves her being naked … a lot. Definitely a mature only title, the story of this powerful character makes for an interesting one-shot. Although, the wait for the next Hellwitch story isn’t until 2020. Seems a bit long after giving us this little teaser. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
