GREEN LANTERN #8 DC COMICS
Comfort. That’s what this issue is all about. I’ve seen many a GA/GL team up and not all of them were good. But it seems that DC is letting Grant Morrison do what he does best, and that is use DC’s past to his heart’s content. From the subject matter which relates to one of the best times of these characters stories, to the fact that Ollie is still making overly spicy foods and has an original “Adams” on his wall, nostalgia simply oozes out of this issue. And bring in Xeen Arrow, who first appeared in Adventure Comics #253 (Oct. 1958) and I’m reliving a wonderful part of my childhood. Pick this one up for all the right reasons. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
BETTIE PAGE UNBOUND #1 DYNAMITE COMICS
Bettie’s adventures continue in this new series. And with this new series comes a very clever twist. Described in ads as a Crisis of Infinite Betties, that’s sort of what this is. Bettie starts in her universe as the government agent who has just saved the Queen. Next thing you know, she’s a certain chain-mail sword swinging warrior. And after some hair raising adventures, she’s face to face with the second charm. The best part of this concept is that Bettie remains her usual self. Quick-witted and always ready with a smart aleck response, Bettie show us that she is a woman to be reckoned with. Whether face to face with an evil sorcerer or freeing a group of potential slaves, Bettie can do it all. SPOILER ALERT! Can’t wait until next issue when like an episode of Quantum Leap, Bettie ends up as a well known alien vampire hottie in an iconic red outfit! New series or not, Bettie continues to be a terrific character. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
HASHTAG:DANGER #2 AHOY COMICS
The adventures of this Mad Magazine version of the Challengers of the Unknown, slips quietly into it’s second adventure. Yeti’s and the comic book need to have a super-villain to keep the conflict active are on the day’s agenda. This title does have the ability to aggravate me. On the one hand, I applaud any group of ordinary who gather together to explore. Rip Hunter and his Time Masters, the Sea Devils, or Cave Carson and his band all rank among my top teams ever. But some of the humor does take away from the serious side of the plot. (Yes, I know that is one of the whole points of the book.) And that is my dilemma, have it take a bigger step into the more serious aspects and you end up losing one of the basic bricks the series. Make it too funny, and you won’t be able to see the potential of these mysteries. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.

MY HERO ACADEMIA VOL. 19 SHONEN JUMP COMICS
More fun and excitement with all the class at UA High School! With 19 volumes in print, they have to be doing something right. While Todoroki is in short supply, Deku seems to be taking a portion of center stage throughout the book. However, the storyline continues to enchant and is a direct successor to the television series. Plus we are given the story of the Gentle Criminal. If you are a fan of the anime, you should be reading this book. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
