FREEDOM FIGHTERS #12 DC COMICS
Wow! Just a whole lot of wow here. Uncle Sam rocks it out in a no holds barred battle with this universe’s version of the Cyborg Superman. The Human Bomb blows everything. From the severed head on the cover to the especially creepy ending, this was a solid tale and a great regeneration of Quality Comics’ favorite heroes. Hope to see them again soon. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
FLASH #86 DC COMICS
It’s good to see that even stuck with the Year of the Villian sub-plot to have to work around Joshua Williamson still manages to bring out the best parts of the Rogues Gallery. With King Cold (am I the only one who thinks that should have been a character from Robbie Reed’s time with the H Dial?) obviously lost, it’s the rest of the Rogues that prove the value of the group and has made them a mainstay of the DC Universe for all these years. The depth and self awareness of who they are simply amazes the reader. With more big plans for the Flash in the near future, this part of the overall story remind us that character development and keeping true to those character’s nature is vital to good storytelling. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
MARVEL TALES RAVENCROFT #1 MARVEL COMICS
A loosely based reason to reprint some classic Spider-Man tales. The problem here is in trying to put the focus on the Ravencroft Institute, we’ve got some pretty random tales here with not a lot of connecting material. This book really could have been made better with some sort of wrap around story to help blend these tales better. It also doesn’t help that these tales are in most cases only a part of a storyline which leaves us either missing facts from the beginning of the story or ends on some form of cliffhangar that the reader will only be able to continue by searching back issues at their local comic shop. Concept wise, this one’s a little muddy. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
FROZEN TRUE TREASURES #3 DARK HORSE COMICS
Acting as a prelude for the Frozen II movie, this wonderfully touching story of a treasure hunt for Anna and Elsa is both fun and heartmelting. When the secret is answered and the tresure is revealed, it will bring a tear to your eye. It is this type of stuff that Disney was know for in the early days. Definately worth the read, especially if you have siblings. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
