THE MAN WHO EFFED TIME AFTERSHOCK PUBLISHING
John Layman and Karl Mostert play it smart here. His story blends the flashbacks we need to understand the backstory with the ongoing future story. Sean Bennett has somehow managed to COMPLETELY skewer the future but how? The minor alterations he makes here are really not amazing (except for maybe playing the lottery in the past.) and shouldn’t have made a mess. But he did and now he has to fix it. And that’s why I’ll be here for issue two. The story definitely brings out the reader’s curiosity. Which is the first sign of a good book. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
TRUE BELIEVERS #1 PEPPER POTTS
A wonderful little reminder of the early days of Marvel when new villains were simply but effective and you never knew when a backround character would become a beloved mainstay for decades. Relive a sunny day in September of 1963 when the world was first introduced to Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan before they became the beloved characters some 57 years later! I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams.
CRIMES OF PASSION #1 DC COMICS
I hate to admit it but I really enjoyed this book. Most times when a one-shot comes out it hits up popular characters of the day and wedges them into stories based on the theme of the book. This time around it’s Valentine’s Day but the creative teams have really thought outside the box. Steve Orlando’s tale of early love with the Golden Age Batman is especially touching. And Matt Groom’s tale of Slam Bradley and his version of Catwoman is both funny and sad. Throw in characters like Plastic Man, Green Arrow and Black Canary, and Wildcat and we are on the verge of a classic 1970’s DC Super-Spectacular! Plus how can you not smirk at that cover. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
