FLASH #750 DC COMICS
While I always love it when DC goes back to their original numbering system to celebrate an anniversay, I was expecting more from this milestone in the history of everyone’s favorite speedster. While I was tickled pink by Geoff Johns and Scott Kolins tale of Captain Cold on his night off and Joshua Williamson’s and David Marquez Flashback to the Golden Age, this special issue acts more like a primer to the next years worth of storylines. Some celebration, some Rogues, some multiversal clues, but something is missing. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
TRUE BELIEVERS #1 EMPYRE:MANTIS MARVEL COMICS
Reliving the best of the 1970’s, when the Vision had phobias, the Scarlet Witch was Uber-Hot, and Marvel would totally fill up one of their main comic titles with complicated and overlapping origin stories! Then we’d turn it all over to Stylin Sal Buscema and Jumpin Joe Staton for some primo art! And while it still costs more than it did when I first bought it, it still worth the dollar! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
STRANGE ADVENTURES #1 DC COMICS
This one is a real challenge. I love Adam Strange and the fact that he is one of a handful of DC characters who keeps popping up but never gets to keep a title for very long. My problem lies in Tom King’s story. It is very well done but it deals with subject matter that causes my brain to cringe at. With the overwhelming influence of social media on today’s society, the topic of running an old hero such as Adam through the mud, is too real. Even with the help of Batman and Mr. Terrific, this fight is not winable. But more importantly, it proves yet again that in todays society right and wrong mean nothing. People will video tape a man verbally abusing someone instead of trying to help. A great story but it just sends shivers up my spine. Too real! I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
