THE OTHER HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE #1 DC COMICS
This one took an extended time to read. And it was well worth it! If you are of a age bracket to remember the mid 1970’s, this is a wonderful rememberence of those times. Big afro wig, open collar, and lightning bolts from the hands, Black Lightning proved to be the perfect hero to represent the times. Times when a next generation of heroes was starting to appear. One’s that were not afraid to face off against Superman or tell the Justice League NO to their offer of membership. And John Ridley’s story give us a lot of backstory and genuine emotions to these times. I think this one book tells more about Black Lightning the character than several mini-series ever did. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
MARVEL #2 MARVEL COMICS
With such talented folks as Alex Ross, Steve Darnall, Eric Powell, Kurt Busiek, Dan Brerton, and Tom Orzechowski leading the charge, you can’t help but like this title. And while these are all good short stories, I can’t help but wish that these had been actual issue of their parent titles. The X-men story slides seimlessly into the original X-Men series. And could you imagine being a kid at the newsstand picking up a copy of either Marvel Team Up or Marvel Two-In-One with Spider-Man and the Thing and their guests Silver Surfer and Dr. Doom. The quirkiness of this one tale would have been perfect for the 1970’s. The biggest problem I had was actually opening this book. That classic Black Widow cover is mind blowing! I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams.
