BATMAN/SUPERMAN WORLD’S FINEST #1 DC COMICS
In the beginning there was World’s Best Comics. Then in issue #2, it became World’s Finest and for the first 70 issues, it was an anthology book where the covers were the only place Batman and Superman interacted. Then someone had the brainstorm to do a story inside the comic where the two met. And it’s been that way ever since. Numerous different volumes with the title have appeared over the decades. So after 81 years do we really need the Batman Superman part of the title? Aside from this little pet peeve, Mark Waid proves that he definately knows his way around a World’s Finest story. And Dan Mora is putting a unique spin on his 1950’s take on the heroes. However, the best part of this issue is the lack of continuity it has. So while Poison Ivy has her old costume on, we get a more Superman the Animated Series take on Metallo. And when Batman calls in Niles Caulder and the original Doom Patrol, all bets are off! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
KAMEN AMERICA VOLUME 2 ANTARCTIC PRESS
Following the events from Volume 1 … don’t remember Volume 1? Yeah, me neither so I did a little digging. Kamen America Volume 1 was a one-shot that Antarctic Press released in September of 2020, so it’s been awhile. However after reading through Volume 2, I find that I might have to search out a copy of volume 1. Mark Pellegrini’s story, filled with flashbacks and secondary plots, is a wonderful tale with likable characters, easily identifiable situations, and some superb Japanese tokusatsu action. And while the characters are clearly older, this has a Sailor Moon-Magic Kinght Rayearth mentality to it. And Timothy Lim’s art style is a perfect fit for this title. Maybe hard to track down but worth it I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
