ROGUES BOOK 4 DC COMICS
Vaguely interesting, we reach the final installment of what ends the way it started dark and depressing. Joshua Williamson’s story stays dark and moody with no happy endings, The heist has gone wrong, Sam Simeon is doomed, and the Rogues are falling one by one. An interesting tale with some definite highlights especially with the Grodd/Captain Cold fight but there is no rays of sunshine here at all. My main problem with this story is that I have long been a fan of the Rogues and this does not paint them in a good light. Which just adds to the pain here. Not a feel good but worth reading. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD REVENANCE #1 AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY
S.A. Check and James Kuhoric’s story is a wonderful expansion on the original story. Filling in gaps in the movie and giving us a look at events before Barbara is attacked at the cemetary. Also providing us with a broader look at some of the secondary characters that end up in the baracaded house. And best of all, the story doesn’t want to explain the zombie outbreak, it just wants to give us a bigger picture as if to show what the original film would have been like if it had been hours longer. And with artist Giancarlo Caracuzo’s well done takes on the cast of the original film, this visually fits right into the film itself. Along with some terrific bonus features revolving around the movie, this one is a must read. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
MARVEL FAMILY COMICS #1 FACSIMILE DC COMICS
Sigh! It’s a shame that it takes a new movie to provoke DC to release books like these. With original ads intact, I open this book and it’s 1945 again! One of the most popular heroes of all time is back in a new title and he’s brought the whole family with him. Mary, Jr., even Uncle Dudley are here to team up to fight the new menace of Black Adam. And while that is the main reason for this book to be on the stands this week, it’s not all we get. Remember Baby Marvel? How about Boxcar Benny or Richard Richard, Private Dick? How about sending away for courses to learn radio? Fawcett Publications knew what they were doing when they took the various members of the Marvel Family from the pages of their Wow, Whiz, and Master comic title and combine them into new bigger adventures. And really, who didn’t want to order an All Hero Tattoo Transfer pack which also featured such heroes as Bulletman and Radar! I know I want one. A real flashback that brings back great memories. And how about that C.C. Beck art! 10 out 10 Grahams.
