Project Superpowers: HeroKillers #3     DYNAMITE COMICS GROUP

One has to take a step back to enjoy this title. While still a love letter to the fans of the Golden Age, this rather warped spoof does have a dark side. At the end of the series, I totally expect to see the final panel being the real Tim, Sparky, and Captain Battle Jr. holding an issue of the book and breaking the fourth wall to tell us of their displeasure (ala Not Brand Eccch!). The trick here is to simply enjoy the shenanigans and not take it all that seriously.

I give it a 7 out of 10.

Doom Patrol #7     DC YOUNG ANIMALS

Gerard Way and Michael Allred continue to channel the muse known as Grant Morrison for another entertaining issue. A crash course in what it is to be the Chief! Manipulative, cunning, the man with the plan, but a man with secrets and vices. And just why did he make Casey dress up like Rita? Crazy Jane, Danny the Street, all our old friends are returning to us.

I give it an 8 out of 10.

Captain Canuck #1     CHAPTERHOUSE PUBLISHING

One of the best parts of the original Captain Canuck series all those many years ago was the theme of a man living in secret … hiding out from the rest of the world. That theme returns in Season 3. A threat has appeared and the powers that be believe that only Captain Canuck can save the day. Unfortunately, Tom Evans has had enough. Our man is still doing good but on his terms and in today’s lifestyle, that idea has a wonderfully appealing charm. And that is what issue #1 is full of. A terrific page turner to get acquainted with the character or a warm nostalgic flashback to better days before the real action starts.

I give it 9 out of 10.
