 OUTSIDERS #7     DC COMICS

Ok. So writer Jackson Lanzing definitely gets it! Starting us way back in the Wildstorm days with Ambrose, the Drummer, Elijah, and Jakita. Cameo of the Flash as the Wildstorm universe collapses and is rewritten. With Jakita the only survivor and lost in a complicated universal reboot after reboot. Each listed in books with taped on titles such as 52 and Convergence. She lives through each white out of reality only to reappear in the newest model. Leaving her as the current version of the Drummer. This is an amazing take on the readers of DC Comics. Jakita is us reading as each reboot fails and restarts. And much like us readers, she makes due with what she finds herself with. Liking some bits, hating other bits but continuing onward. This was a wonderful bit of nostalgia. A definite read for all fans of the original Planetary series. 9 out of 10 Grahams.

 GODZILLA 70TH ANNIVERSARY     IDW COMICS

It was only natural that IDW would come up with a overstuffed one-shot to celebrate the big guys anniversary. And while an anthology of short stories is better than simply reprinting some issues from old series (don’t worry I believe there might be some reprinting in there), I was rather hoping for a little bit more. I mean, the franchise is 70 years old. But I will admit that James Stokoe’s lead off story featuring the Smog Monster is completely entertaining. We continue bouncing back and forth with guest kaiju and different art styles but all around good fun. While not what I was hoping for, it was more than I’d expected I’d get. 8 out of 10 Grahams.

REDCOAT #2     IMAGE/GHOST MACHINE

The gang over at Ghost Machine have proved that Redcoat is a character worth reading. As the Redcoat universe continues to expand, it becomes much more interesting. With new immortals, new villains, new evil plans, and a very young Albert Einstein tagging along with a story of visions and doom for the world that only Simon can stop. Geoff Johns & Bryan Hitch keep the ball rolling and making you want to read the next issue. Part Quality Comics Uncle Sam, part Valiant Comics Timewalker, with a hint of cowardice and a huge amount of smart-aleck, Redcoat is a treat. 9 out of 10 Grahams.
