BATMAN THE DROWNING #1 DC COMICS
Poor Dan Abnett must have drawn the short straw on this one. And unfortunately even with his skills, he’s not given a lot to work with. “Dan, you get the Aquaman version of Batman and he’s a chick!” Apparently, the even version of the flip-flop gender universe originally shown in Superman #349 and the Flashback universe gives us an evil Bryce (isn’t that the name of an x-rated movie actress?) Wayne who experimented on herself to defeat a warring Atlantis.With very little substance, the Aqua-Bat-Chick is by far the least interesting of the evil Batmen and this one-shot does not seem to move the story along very far except to reveal that Doctor Fate managed to save Aquaman. Lets just move on. I give it 3 out of 10 Grahams.
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #593 MARVEL COMICS
While I see some concepts from a certain Superman storyline with numerous imposters, Bendis seems to be getting us back to a stable Tony Stark/Iron Man place in the Marvel Universe. And I cannot argue with Stefano Caselli and Alex Maleev’s take on Friday! Wowsers! And certainly Marte Gracia & Maleev’s colors showcase the issue. All parties involved seemed to be giving us a good chance at seeing the Marvel universe get back into shape. No characters are being ignored and the mystery behind Tony Stark’s absence do have a sense of mystery. This makes me lose some of my gunshyness about reading a Marvel book. Waiting with both fingers crossed. I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams.
MIGHTY THOR #700 MARVEL COMICS
While I am glad to see that Marvel is returning to the original numbering system, I still am hesitant about Marvel books. However, issue 700 seems to be getting off on a good foot. No character seems to be left behind and the many versions of Thor are all represented. Hopefully, the creative team has not bitten off more than they can chew. Almost makes me believe that Marvel is putting forward an effort to smooth things out. I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams.
KONG GODS OF SKULL ISLAND #1 BOOM STUDIOS
More Adventures with the Mighty Kong. And while I do enjoy the Kong titles, I begin to wonder just how many groups have somehow managed to find their way onto Skull Island? I mean really, the island was suppose to be almost impenetrable but yet these yo-yos keep finding a safe path though. Oh well, if you like giant apes and mayhem, this is for you. I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams.
