STREET FIGHTER & FRIENDS SWIMSUIT SPECIAL #1 UDON

Zenescope isn’t the only publisher with a swimsuit special! Welcome to Udon Comics Street Fighter Special. With a more anime feel to it the artwok is charming and out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, it have been decades since I played Street Fighter and Darkstalkers, I was still able to recognize most of the characters even though that were wearing dramaticly altered versions of their costumes. This is definitely a different take on cheesecake artwork but was still well done. Although, I don’t remember Chun-Li being that hippy. A great bit of art for fans of Capcom games and definately worth a look by the general public. 7 out of 10 Grahams.

LADY SATANUS SINISTER URGE #1     COFFIN COMICS

Fans of R rated horror movies of the 1990’s and the 1970’s Marvel Spotlight (You know, the monster years!) rejoice as this is the book for you. Co-written by Brian Pulido and Mike MacLean, these gentlemen have created a new 1970’s horror character in 2024. Cudos fellas! The story of the half breed daughter of Satanus as she is expelled from Hell into New York in 1977 is spot-on. The backrounds, the clothing, the cars are done with precision by illustrator Omar Zaldivar. He also does a great job with women of 1977. Lady Satanus straddles the fine line as she has just enough humanity to be likable but not enough to stop her from incinerating a group of local demons pledging their support to her. This is a great one-shot featuring one of Lady Death’s secondary characters. 9 out of 10 Grahams.

BACK ISSUE MAGAZINE #153     TWOMORROWS

I have a friend who agrees to disagree with me about which Twomorrows magazine is better, Back Issue or Alter Ego. And while I am a Alter Ego fan, this issue is right up me alley. And while I do get a little nostalgic over Harvey Comics (you know … Richie Rich, Casper, Hot Stuff, etc.) when you present me with an amazing article on the great Sheldon Mayer and the history of Sugar & Spike, I’m all in! Sugar & Spike was one of my favorite comics growing up. But then to add in a look at the kid entries from Marvel at the end of the 1960’s is just the icing on the cake! Titles like Peter the Little Pest, Li’l Pals, Li’l Kids and its spin off series Calvin! All remembered here and examined by writers that appreciate the characters earns this one a 10 out of 10 Grahams.

AND WITH ALL THIS NOSTALGIA FLOATING AROUND, LET’S JUMP BACK TO 1985!

All right Gen Z’ers, get your Google Search windows open cause this one is going to drop you into a rabbit hole of epic proportions!

THE TANDY COMPUTER WHIZ KIDS: THE COMPUTERS THAT SAID NO TO DRUGS #1     ARCHIE COMICS

Wow! Mind Blown! During the 1980’s, several businesses felt the need to have comics produced for them that could be given away at their store locations or used at a special event. This was not a new idea by any means as shoe stores had been doing it since the 1940’s (GOOGLE SEARCH ALERT). But one of the odder entries was the adventures of Alec and Shanna, The Whiz Kids for Radio Shack. With writers like Paul Kupperberg and artists like Dick Ayers & Chic Stone, these were actually professionally well made comics. And from what I can tell, the Whiz Kids had 9 issues that could be picked up at your local Radio Shack (GOOGLE SEARCH ALERT) at various points between 1984 through 1991. With various educational messages throughout the series, this entry has the Whiz Kids helping their friend Detective Shaw and Reporter Judy Baker cracking down on drug smugglers that were hidden in computer units including a Tandy Color Computer 2 with color disk drive, a DWP-210 Daisy Wheel Printer and a RS-232 Program Pak and DC-1 Modem (GOOGLE SEARCH ALERT) that just happens to get delivered to the Whiz Kids’ school. As well as getting a Just Say No To Drugs (GOOGLE SEARCH ALERT) lecture that would have made Nancy Reagan (GOOGLE SEARCH ALERT) proud. At least it wasn’t Supergirl teaching about seat belts for Honda! For just being part of this weird rabbit hole, this desearves at least an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
