CAPTAIN AMERICA #2 MARVEL COMICS
Decided to try a little something different with this title. Instead of jumping on board immediately with issue #1, I held back to read until issue #2. What I was given was fine art, nice characterization, and an interesting story. The problem that the creative team has on their hands is that Marvel has allowed Captain America to become damaged goods. Years of misuse of the good Captain has lead to a blot on the real character itself. The irony is not lost on me that the storyline deals with a world who doesn’t trust Cap anymore. However, the storyline is starting to lean itself towards a “Cap as a undercover spy” storyline which is not at the top of my list of favorite types of Cap storylines. I do wish the creative team luck in bring the character back into the good graces of the public. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
DOLLMAN KILLS THE FULL MOON UNIVERSE #1 FULL MOON COMICS
What can I say, it was the late 80’s and I had an unlimited account at the local mom and pop video store. Charles Band was a genius as his movies were fun, violent, sexy, gory, and on a budget so he was “the Man” to those of us into B-movies. Luckily his new comic title stays true to those core tenants. Definitely not for everyone, the creative teams get to delve into the Full Moon universe and give us the ultimate crossover. While the stories are a little shorter than I’d like, they jump in with just enough back story, hit you with the gore and violence and then you have your resolution and your done. Wham and bam! For anyone who still has their R&R Video card in their wallet! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
ASTONISHING X-MEN #14 MARVEL COMICS
I fully admit it, the only reason this found it’s way into my hands was the amazing Greg Land Dazzler cover. But once I started actually reading it, the story caught my attention. And it really shouldn’t have. Semi-dead Banshee, Blue fuzzy Beast, drunken Colossus still stinging from his aborted marriage to Kitty. This has disaster written all over it. But somehow, writer Matthew Rosenberg manages to make it entertaining and interesting. Plus you do get Dazzler in her classic whites for a page. This one has definitely got some spunk. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
DISNEY FROZEN #1 DARK HORSE COMICS
A new storyline featuring everyone’s favorite Arendelle princesses. With the whole gang back and some new friends/foes, Dark Horse brings us back to the wonderful world of Disney. Good reading for comic fans of all ages. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
THE SEEDS #1 BERGER BOOKS
Another under the radar title from our friends at Berger Books. Featuring an interesting story filled with interesting littler stories. In a city world filled with dirt and technology, what lies beyond the wall. Is it the utopia that some claim with no technology or does it mean death? Why are aliens walking around with Vertigo Sandman masks on? And why would anyone want to feel what it’s like to die? Ann Nocenti and David Aja have offered to be our guides into this gritty black and white graphic style world. Definitely glad store manager Jim stuck this one in my hand. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
COMIC BOOK IMPLOSION SC #1 TWOMORROWS PUBLISHING
Thanks to this soft cover, I don’t need the wayback machine to relive a wonder part of my youth. A time when the world of DC Comics was literally exploding with sparkling talent and brave new ideas. New heroes, new back up features, which all lead to a tremendous collapse and the hard to find copies of Cancelled Comics Cavalcade. Filled with art, ads, and remembrances of those days, Twomorrow Publishing had done it again! I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams!
