BATMAN KINGS OF FEAR #1 DC COMICS
Welcome back to the 1990’s and the return of artist, Kelly Jones! This 6parter starts off with a classic confrontation between Batman and the Joker. Which ends in the usual manner with Batman even commenting on why this fight happened. We then make a pitstop over at Arkham where Batman gets lectured from an uppity staff member who I really wanted to see get whacked (she doesn’t). And then we revisit the plot of multiple inmates escaping. And while its nice to see Jones back on Batman, there’s nothing new here. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.
SUICIDE SQUAD ANNUAL #1 DC COMICS
Finally, Suicide Squad lives up to it’s name! And finally we get some roster changes as well! And this roster has some real doozies in it. My only question is how some of these characters exist? Tao Jones and Baby Boom fought the original Infinity Inc. which was an off shoot of the original JSA which aren’t back in continuity yet. (WELL DC? WE’RE WAITING!) And while I was overjoyed to see Scream Queen from Scare Tactics, she wasn’t really a villain. Never the less, it was great to see third tier villains getting slaughtered like in the good old days. Plus we finally get to see Waller press the damn button and blow somebodies head off! Cudoes to Cullen Bunn, Ronan Cliquet, and Jason Wright for pulling this off. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.
SCOOBY DOO TEAM-UP #41 DC COMICS
Ok! Childhood dream come true! Penelope Pitstop is back and so is the Ant Hill Mob! Back in the day, the Wacky Races was my absolute hands down favorite cartoon … ever! So when it came time for a spinoff cartoon, The Perils of Penelope Pitstop became my second favorite. I can still hear the sarcastic tones of Paul Lynde’s voice spit out the lines of Sylvester Sneekly aka the Hooded Claw! And the story acts as an end of an era as Scooby and the gang unmask the Hooded Claw effectively ending the cartoon series. I can only hope that Shaggy and Scooby will get to meet the rest of the Wacky Racers! I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.
THRILLING ADVENTURE HOUR #2 BOOM! STUDIOS
More ghost hunter schinanigans, as Sadie and Frank (the Nick and Nora Charles of the afterlife scene) make numerous advancements (and cocktails) in the case. And Dave is catching on quick! But there has been a new problem added to the mix. Reading like a classic 1940’s radio broadcast the Adventure Hour clamors for the reader to keep up. Once again the two Bens show their writing genius. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
